- 4 tbsp unsalted butter room temperature
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 loaf bread white or whole wheat works best

Instructions
- Grate the cheese using the fine side of a box grater. (Make sure the cheese is at room temperature for easy mixing.)
- Add the butter and mustard to the grated cheese.
- Optional: Now’s the time to mix in any extra flavorings—like grated onion, or hot sauce—if using.
- Using a spoon (or spatula), mix until smooth and creamy. You can adjust the flavor here—add more mustard if you prefer a sharper bite.
- Once the paste is smooth, divide it into small containers.
- Add food coloring to each container. You can go as light or vibrant as you like. Mix until evenly blended.
- Spread generously onto slices of your favorite sandwich bread.
- Now for the fun part: Layer and stack the colors however you like—single color, two-tone, or rainbow-style!
- Trim the edges of the bread for clean sides.
- Cut into triangles or squares to serve.
- Enjoy immediately, or chill briefly for a firmer bite.
Notes
Make-ahead note: You can prep the cheesepaste the day before—just store in the fridge and bring to room temp before spreading.
