Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups bread flour plus extra ½ cup just in case
- 1 packet 2ÂĽ tsp instant yeast
- 1 cup milk lukewarm
- â…“ cup melted unsalted butter cooled
- â…“ cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg room temperature
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add lukewarm milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.Add the yeast, gently stir and let sit for 10 minutes, until it becomes foamy and active.
- (If using instant yeast, skip this step and add it directly to the flour.)
- In the same bowl, add melted butter, egg and salt.
- Gradually add flour. Mix with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth, soft, and slightly tacky (not sticky). Add more flour as needed, a tablespoon at a time.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet or in a lightly greased 9×13 pan.
- Cover and let rise for 45 minutes until puffy.
- Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 20–22 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- If dough feels too soft or sticky, gradually add up to ½ cup more flour (1 tbsp at a time) until it forms a soft, workable dough.
- Sugar Step: Dissolving sugar in the milk before adding yeast ensures consistent yeast activation.
- Testing Temperature: Milk should feel warm to the touch, not hot (around 105–110°F).
- The dough should feel slightly tacky but not cling to your fingers.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated for a few seconds in the microwave or a warm oven.
