Hi, I’m Chrissy — and if you’re reading this, thank you for being here. Whether you found me through a video, a recipe, or a friend who sent you my way, I’m happy our paths crossed.
This is a space for baking, yes. But it’s also a space for going back to roots and back to joy — for Grenada, for family, for the kind of sweetness that gets passed down through generations instead of just eaten in a moment.
Where It Started
My love for baking started in my mother’s kitchen. Outside of my aunt, she’s one of the best bakers and cooks I know; and I promise I’m not just saying that because she’s my mom. Her breads, her cakes, her homemade treats are unmatched, and some of my earliest memories are of watching her hands move around that kitchen, learning without even realizing I was learning.
Then there’s my aunt, a professional baker whose skills are top tier. Every time I go home to Grenada, I know exactly what will be waiting for me. That flavor, that feeling — that’s the thing I’ve spent time trying to bottle up and share with you.
Why Grenada Is In Everything I Make
This isn’t just a baking page. It’s a love letter to where I’m from.
Grenada is in the nutmeg and the clove, in the way a Sunday morning smells, in the recipes that taught me patience before they taught me technique. Every bake I share carries a piece of the island with it; sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly folded into something that looks American on the outside but tastes like home once you take a bite.
That’s the whole idea behind The Sweet Life: baking as a way of keeping culture alive, one recipe at a time.
What You’ll Find Here
I’ve spent some time rebuilding this space to actually reflect what it’s become, so here’s what’s ahead:
- Recipes and fundamentals — the ones I grew up with, the ones I’ve discovered along the way, and the baking basics that make you a more confident baker, spoken with a Caribbean perspective.
- Myth-busting — because baking is full of “rules” that deserve a second look, and I love pulling them apart.
- Stories from home — culture, memory, and the parts of Grenadian life that shaped how I bake and how I see the world.
- The Real Lesson, my newsletter, where I go a little deeper than social media allows.
The Thank-Yous
To my mentor, who once told me to “knead the stress out” when I needed it most, and accidentally started all of this.
To my mom, for planting the seed.
To my aunt, for being my baking lifeline on speed dial.
To my family and friends, who’ve eaten more test batches than any group of people should have to.
And to you…whether you’re here for the recipes, the stories, or just to see what I’m up to — thank you for being part of this journey. It means more than you know.
Let’s bake something sweet together.
