Notes

Pairs Well With

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Warm milk
  • Fresh fruit
  • Lightly salted butter

Baking Notes

  • Toss the berries: Coating the strawberries in flour helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the muffins.
  • Using store-bought strawberries: Choose ripe, bright red strawberries with a sweet aroma. If they seem watery after cutting, gently pat them dry before folding into the batter.
  • Fresh-picked strawberries: Fresh-picked berries often have a stronger flavor and firmer texture, making them ideal for baking.
  • Do not overmix: Overmixing can lead to dense muffins. Mix just until the ingredients come together.
  • Nutmeg matters: Freshly grated nutmeg provides the warm flavor that makes these muffins unique.
  • Optional topping: The brown sugar and nutmeg topping creates a lightly crisp, bakery-style finish without the need for a glaze.
